Chris Lamb and Austin House combined for five scoreless innings
out of the bullpen to secure a narrow 3-2 triumph over the Peoria Chiefs on
Thursday evening at Dozer Park in Midwest League action.
Beloit's win streak now reaches seven, the third win streak of at least
seven games they've put together this season, as their record goes to 55-29
(12-2 in the second half). Peoria sinks to 43-38 (5-9 in the second half).
Neither pitching staff budged until the bottom of the fourth, which is when
Peoria took the first lead of the night. With a man on, Patrick Wisdom (1-4,
HR, 2 RBIs, run) hammered his 13th homer of the year over the left field
wall for a 2-0 lead.
This salvo roused the Snappers offense and they struck back in the fifth
against Joe Cuda (4-4). A single and a double put two men in scoring
position for Daniel Robertson (2-5, 2 RBIs, run), who dropped a single into
left for two RBIs to tie the game. Christopher Bostick followed with a
triple for a 3-2 lead.
Now ahead, Beloit manager Ryan Christenson went to the bullpen and the first
reliever he called on was Lamb (2-2). The lefty walked the first batter he
faced, then immediately picked him off. He then retired the next eight men
in a row over three innings to earn the victory. For the last two frames,
the ball went to House and he also threw shutout ball to save his fifth game
of the season.
Friday night will feature a pitching matchup of RHP Seth Streich (9-4, 4.41
ERA) for the Snappers and LHP Hector Hernandez (4-3, 3.66 ERA) for the
Chiefs. The scheduled first pitch time is 7:00pm.
