Former Illinois Governor George Ryan has been released from custody.
Ryan, 79, has spent the last five years in prison on corruption charges. He was moved to home confinement in January and released a day early on Wednesday, July 2. He spent the last few months at his home in Kankakee, and was only allowed to leave for activities like church or doctor's appointments.
Ryan was sentenced to six and a half years in prison in 2007 but got a reduced sentence for good behavior. He was found guilty of conspiracy, racketeering, tax fraud, and making false statements to the FBI in 2006.
