Aviators Take Series Opener from Evansville

LOVES PARK (WREX) -

Jeff Kremer's 2-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning proved the go-ahead runs in Rockford's 4-2 win over the visiting Evansville Otters. Kremer finished the night 4-for-4.

Seafth Howe pieced together another quality outing, tossing 5.1 innings and allowing two runs on only three hits. The bullpen combined for 3.2 innings of scoreless relief and allowed only two hits. Nick Cicio picked up his seventh save of the season in nine chances.

The Otters scored the first two runs of the ball game in the top of the sixth frame on RBI doubles from CJ Henry and Frank Martinez. But Rockford answered with two runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning on base hits from Tyler Smith and Brandon Newton. That set the table for Kremer to win it.

The Aviators, presented by Pearson, and Otters will battle again Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. The Aviators will have their 4th of July fireworks after the contest.
