Rockford's YouthBuild to receive $1.1 million grant

Today, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos announced a $1.1 million grant for the YouthBuild program in Rockford.  The grant is awarded through the U.S. Department of Labor.

"I'm pleased to announce this important investment in Rockford-area youth and the larger community," Congresswoman Cheri Bustos said.  "This grant will help young people in the Rockford area gain the skills and confidence they need to become productive members of society and will benefit the long-term economic health of the region."

The YouthBuild program is a workforce and community development program that serves youth ages 16-24.  The target population for YouthBuild is high school dropouts who may be youth aging out of foster care, youth with disabilities, adjudicated youth or other at-risk populations.  The YouthBuild program uses a dual program model combining academic instruction and occupational skills training leading to the completion of a high school diploma or GED.  Participants receive an opportunity to gain industry-recognized credentials in construction trades while gaining hands-on experience in the construction industry.
