Wild Wednesday at Rockford Speedway

MACHESNEY PARK (WREX) -

Dennis Smith Jr had himself quite a 'Wild Wednesday' at Rockford Speedway.

The driver known as "DJ" not only was the fast qualifier for the Roadrunner Super Summer Series, he was the division's feature winner, capturing a wild 25 lap affair. Along with his Roadrunner triumphs, the former Figure 8 champion was also able to stop the winning streak of Adam Cartwright in the criss-crossing crazy eight, capturing his first Figure 8 win of the year in his first start.

The Roadrunner feature event began with Chad Lousnbury taking the early lead and a wild battle behind him. On lap two, that battle would evolve into a violent crash in turn four, involving three cars. Dave Lumsden Jr, who looked to the inside of Jim Daugherty and Gene Marocco for position, would get together with Daugherty sending both cars toward the wall, with Daugherty receiving the brunt of the impact. Marocco became sandwiched as well and with all of the carnage in turn four, the red flag would be displayed. All drivers would walk away.

Following a lengthy clean up, the race would resume, with a frantic finish in the cards. Trevor "Magic Shoes" Robinson would assume the lead shortly after lap four, and seemed to be the driver to beat. However Smith, who started in eighth place, soon moved into a contending position. Smith would wrestle Jeff Allendorf for second for 15 laps before finally snagging the spot with three laps to go. Smith would have a limited amount of time to get to Robinson's back bumper, but made the most of it, getting side by side with Robinson on the race's final lap. Smith would edge ahead and take checkered flag, with Robinson spinning across the line in second while Allendorf captured third.

In the Figure 8 feature, Smith quickly jumped to the lead on the opening lap and held off three-time Figure 8 winner Adam Cartwright for the win. Daniel Opsahl finished third.

Chris Jones survived a field of 18 Bandits and a late race yellow to capture his first win of the year in the division. Jones, who started the race from the outside front row, stayed ahead of a busy battle for second through sixth spot. When the dust settled on the action behind the leader, Tim Dickson would take the runner up spot, with Justin Pearson holding on to third.

Cassidy Frisch became the third driver to win a Winged Women on Wheels feature in three different races this season. Frisch snagged the lead from Tabatha Bennett on lap four to capture the victory. Frisch was followed to the line by Jocelyn Davenport and Wanda Dobbs, the two previous winners in the division this season.

Vernon Brown has yet to be beaten in the Misfit division this season. Brown, took fast time, won his heat and took the overall win on Wednesday evening. Dwight Dunlap was the winner in the "Fendered" Misfit class.

Trevor Addams captured his first ever Rockford Speedway feature win, outrunning last weeks winner Jaden Fryer in the 12 lap Super Cup feature.

Pastor Chris Thomas of Grace Lutheran topped eight other competitors in the "Fastor Pastor" Race.
