Thanks to a large donation, the Rockford Park District announces a project to bring new basketball court will soon be underway at the Washington Park Community Center.
The Kiwanis Club of Rockford donated $75,000 for a new wood gym floor at the center. The gym still needs a new HVAC system as well as some other upgrades to be fully renovated. Leaders at the center say the court may not seem like much to some, but to others, it means the world.
"This is a gift. This is not a donation. This is not a grant. This is a gift. We see over 450 kids every year and our gym floor is not a gym floor. Its the nucleus of what we do every day. It is home to so many," said Community Recreation Manager, Danielle Potter.
The new court should be done by September.
