A few golfers from the Rockford area qualified for the championship flight of the Illinois State Women's Amateur Championship at Cantigny Golf Club in Wheaton.
Madasyn Pettersen, a 14-year-old from Rockford, finished with the best score among Rockford area golfers with a 78. That's five shots off the day's best score, tallied by Elizabeth Szokol and Bing Singhsumalee.
Defending Rockford Women's City Champion Cynthia Bounleutay shot a 79, as did recent Boylan grad Melissa VanSistine.
Sterling's Ember Schuldt, a University of Illinois golfer, fired a 77 to qualify for the championship flight.
Sally Wessels of Mt. Morris narrowly missed out on making the championship flight. She shot an 83, while Belvidere's Hui Chong Dofflemyer shot an 85. NIU golfer Taylor Ellett also shot 85.
The top 32 golfers qualify for the match play championship flight, which begins Wednesday. Bounleutay faces Maureen Sheehan of Grayslake, Schuldt faces Lauren Bond of Marian, VanSistine takes on Tanya Olson of Naperville, and Petterssen goes up against Katarina Mangieri of Galesburg.
