Midway Village hosts free Community Picnic Day

Large crowds flocked to Midway Village on Sunday for the first Community Picnic.

The free event was full of live music, free entertainment and plenty of activities for the whole family.

An attempt at a world's record for most sock monkeys in a Kia was made along with a "dunk a favorite Rockford celebrity booth."

"We think there's a lack of opportunities for the Rockford community to come together and just enjoy each other and get to know one another.  That's why we call it a community pic-nic because we're trying to instill the idea of community here in Rockford," said David Byrnes, Midway Village Museum.

The picnic lasted from noon to five Sunday on the grounds of Midway Village.
