It's the first official weekend of summer and the stateline is taking advantage with activities like the CommUNITY Pick-nic, Field of Blues Festival, the Best in Paradise Festival, and more.
On Sunday, join WREX and other local organizations at Midway Village for the CommUNITY Pick-nic. The event will feature food, drinks, live music, raffles, bingo, and more, including Quidditch. Some of the 13 WREX crew will be on hand throughout the day to celebrate our 60th anniversary with our viewers. Before the picnic, music lovers from around the region are invited to Saturday's Field of Blues Festival at Rockford Aviators Stadium. Lil'Ed and the Blues Imperials, Toronzo Cannon, and the Flaming Mudcats are just some of the acts scheduled to play. Gates open at 11:00 a.m. with the first show starting at noon and the last starting at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door, with $2 for parking. If you prefer burgers over blues, visit the Lombardi Club from 3:00 to 11:00 p.m. for the 8th Annual Best in Paradise event. The Jimmy Buffet-themed party features contests for the best burger and best margarita, music, drinks, prizes, and fun while raising money for the Northern Illinois Food Bank. In Oregon, the Fields Project is wrapping up. The event has been in the area for 15 years and gives artists from all over the country an opportunity to live with local farm families and practice at pre-set locations. The nine-day event wraps up Sunday with a free Art Fair from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Mix Park, 701 South 4th Street. From 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, Rockton's Main Street will shut down for the annual Rockton Inn Block Party. The street will be closed from the Inn to Dairyhaus, with food and drink specials and live music all night.
