The Rockford region is hosting the first Rock River Cup this weekend, the area's first lacrosse tournament.
The national boys tournament features youth and high school divisions and will be held on June 15 and 16 at Sportscore Two. Over 3,000 players, coaches, and fans are expected to attend, bringing an estimated $585,000 to the local economy during their stay.
"We were thrilled to be selected as the host city for this tournament because it shows the diversity in our facilities' capabilities," Rockford Area Convention & Visitors Bureau President/CEO John Groh said. "RACVB is fortunate enough to have great partners in the Rockford Park District's Sportscore Two and our local hotels that enable us to attract events like the Rock River Cup."
Saturday games will be held at the beginning of each hour starting at 9:00 a.m. with the last game at 3:00 p.m. On Sunday, games will be held at the beginning of each hour starting at 8:00 a.m., with the last game starting at 2:00 p.m.
