Weekend Preview: Midsommar, Biggest Loser RunWalk, and more

The Rockford area has a multitude of activities for the family this weekend, including aliens, Midsommar, the Biggest Loser RunWalk, wolves and much more.

Friday night means Friday Night Flix at Davis Park. This week, 13 WREX is hosting a screening of Men in Black 3, which will begin at dusk. Gates open at 7:00 p.m. Members of the Chicago Rush will also be there, signing autographs and offering a two-for-one ticket voucher for Saturday's game at the BMO Harris Bank Center.

The Biggest Loser RunWalk kicks off Saturday at 7:00 a.m. The event is a part of the Biggest Loser Race Series and starts in Davis Park. Former Biggest Loser Season Five contestant and Nashville recording artist Dan Evans will be on hand, as will 13 WREX's own Eric Wilson. The Swedish Historical Society will host Midsommar from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Erlander Home Museum. The free festival celebrates Swedish heritage with food, music, activities, and the maypole parade. Visit www.swedishhistorical.org for more.

From 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, Artsy, an arts and craft exhibit, will take over Edgebrook (1601 North Alpine Road). The Etsy-inspired event will feature artists, crafters, jewelry makers, photographers, entertainers, and live music.

Summerfield Zoo is celebrating the weekend with the arrival of their new wolf pups. The zoo, located at 3088 Flora Road in Belvidere, is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. You can take pictures with the pups and in celebration of Father's Day, every dad will get a free treat from Carmen's Cafe. It's $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, and $5 per child. The zoo also features a hyena, monkeys, reindeer, cougars, and more.
