BELOIT (WREX) -

Michael Ynoa's five inning, no run outing led the Beloit Snappers past the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers by a 3-1 score in the first game of a Midwest League doubleheader at Pohlman Field on Thursday. This victory ensures the Snappers a spot in the Midwest League playoffs for the second consecutive season. Wisconsin won the second game, 2-1, behind the pitching of Austin Blaski in front of 972.

The Snappers are now 41-26 in 2013. The Timber Rattlers stand at 27-35.

Ynoa (2-1) was dealing as he shut down Wisconsin. After allowing two batters to reach base in the first inning, Ynoa faced the minimum over next four frames. He finished his night having allowed only two hits, walking one and striking out five.

Beloit had a tough task in front of them, facing rehabbing Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Hiram Burgos (0-1), but they were up to the challenge. In the second inning, Ryan Delgado hit a ball off the wall in center, scoring Matt Olson for a 1-0 lead. Christopher Bostick was responsible for two more runs in the fourth, as he also found room in center for a two-run double.

Andres Avila was brought in to replace Ynoa starting in the sixth and he began his appearance with a scoreless inning. Wisconsin avoided a shutout thanks to a Max Walla RBI single in the seventh, but Avila caught the next batter looking at a called third strike, earning his second save.

In game two, Blaski (3-2) was nearly as good as Ynoa was in game one. He allowed only a single run through five innings, on an RBI single by Bostick in the fifth. He walked four and also gave up four hits, but struck out four. He concluded his outing by escaping a two-on, one-out jam with a strikeout and a fly out, preserving the lead.

The Timber Rattles jumped on starter Seth Streich (6-4) for a first inning run when Michael Reed's triple scored Tyrone Taylor. They picked up a second run when Walla scored on a wild pitch.

The closer duties for Wisconsin fell to Taylor Mangum and he responded. He escaped a two-out jam in the sixth with a fly out and a strikeout and tossed up another zero in the seventh for his second save.

The Snappers will be welcoming the Clinton LumberKings to town on Friday to start a three-game set with a 7:05pm game. RHP Derek DeYoung (4-1, 3.48 ERA) will handle the pitching chore for Beloit against RHP Charles Kaalekahi (0-0, 11.25 ERA). This night will feature another fireworks show, this one presented by Concordia University of Wisconsin. At game's end, the sky above Pohlman Field will light up in another fantastic display.
