Police say 39-year-old Jeremiah Krubert of Elkhorn approached deputies with a shotgun after stealing a squad car. According to police, Krubert refused to drop the gun, and three deputies fired shots. He died at the scene.
Deputies were originally called for a home invasion in which they say Krubert broke into his mother's home and beat a 54-year-old man with a pipe. Krubert allegedly tried to leave in the victim's truck, but confronted a deputy who tried to stop him, with an edged weapon. The deputy then fired.
Police say Krubert then stole the deputy's car, crashed it after a chase, and exited it with the squad's shotgun.
No deputies were hurt and all four are on standard administrative duty.
