UPDATE: Teen hit by car in Loves Park

Posted: Updated:

A 17 year-old boy is in serious condition after being hit by a car in Loves Park. It happened sometime before 7 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Clifford Avenue & North Second Street.

"A vehicle was headed south-bound on N. 2nd Street and a pedestrian crossed directly in front of the vehicle as it proceeded through a green light. The vehicle struck the pedestrian and we received the call at that point." -says Loves Park Police Department Patrol Sergeant Curt Wilson.

Investigators say the teen was hit just north of the intersection, carried roughly 40 feet and landed here.

"The whole upper body hit the car, basically from the front hood to the windshield and then he bounced off and up and hit the ground." -Wilson says.

A woman who claims to be the driver's girlfriend says she was in the passenger seat, right behind the broken glass. Those pieces cut her legs up. She says the boy came out of nowhere. She's stunned, her boyfriend's upset and the teenager's pretty seriously hurt.

"He sustained some lacerations, there appears to be some broken bones." -says Wilson.

According to investigators, the teen's parents arrived at the scene before an ambulance drove him to Rockford Memorial Hospital. Officers aren't saying who's at fault or if the driver faces charges.

"It would be speculation and I can't do that, so we are continuing to investigate, we're reconstructing the crime scene and we're going from there." -Wilson adds.

The Loves Park Police Department is handling the investigation with help from the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department. We'll bring you more information as we receive it.
