Beloit police positively identify victim of officer-involved shooting

The Beloit Police Department has positively identified the man shot and killed by officers Tuesday evening.

Police say 23-year-old Darrius J. Lowery-Baptiste had an active warrant from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections and police wanted to speak to him about a recent series of shootings in Beloit.

Two officers attempted to pull Lowery-Baptiste over early Tuesday evening, but police say he rammed his car into a squad car before the officers fired shots, killing him.

Police are not releasing the names of the officers involved, but they are 18 year and 34 month veterans, respectively. A third officer with 14 years of service was on the scene, but did not fire his weapon.
