Standfield Beach back open after ammonia testing

Posted:
ROCKFORD (WREX) -

Standfield Beach in Levings Park is open or the season after a brief closure following a recent ammonia leak at Conserv FS.

The Rockford Park District closed the beach as a precaution after a nearby pond became contaminated. However, testing performed by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency confirmed none of the water from the pond went downstream into waterways like Levings Lake. The water is also tested by BeachWatch LLC throughout the summer.

The beach is open until September 3 from noon to 7:00 p.m. except on school days. General admission is $2, and $1 for children under 48" and veterans. You can find more information at www.beachwatch.net.
