House explosion lands Machesney Park man in jail for drugs

Police responded to the 700 block of Wood Avenue in Machesney Park around 10:45 a.m. Sunday morning for an explosion, which occurred in the kitchen of a home.

According to Sergeant Larry Marino with the Winnebago County Sheriff's Department, 31-year-old Dustin McIntire was trying to convert marijuana into hash oil, or hashish, by using butane. Marino says McIntire then put the concoction into the freezer, where it exploded.

The home's front windows were blown out and the kitchen was badly damaged. The freezer door was found in the front yard. Although two other people were home at the time, they were not involved or injured.

McIntired has been charged with possession with intent to deliver 30 grams of cannabis and not having a FOID card for ammunition found in the home.
