The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity has awarded Comprehensive Community Solutions a $1 million grant to provide weatherization services to local homeowners.
The grant is part of $3,398,444 in capital funding for the Urban Weatherization Initiative. UWI is the first state-funded weatherization program and is designed to create jobs and boost local economies by using local suppliers, distributors, and supplies. Six to eight jobs are expected to be added by CCS for the program.
Weatherization services include repairing or replacing heating or cooling units, fixing air infiltration issues, pipe and duct insulation, and repairing or replacing water heaters. The grants are designed to fund weatherization services for about 65 homes a year for two years.
Eligible homeowners could receive a maximum benefit of up to $6,500 per unit, but for some it could also be paired with the $6,500 maximum benefit through the Illinois Home Weatherization Assistance Program.
