Officials with Rockford Public Schools District 205 hope to purchase 14 school buses powered by propane in an effort to reduce fuel costs.
The goal is to fully convert District 205's fleet to propane from expensive diesel vehicles. Along with the buses, a propane filling station would be added by the district's bus terminal.
If the change is made, the district would pay about 52 percent less for a gallon of propane than a gallon of diesel.
