Hundreds of people head to Rockford's Prairie Street Brewhouse every Thursday night in the summer to enjoy a meal at "Dinner on the Dock."
But pretty soon some people will call that building home. And just this week, a whole new group started work there. We go inside the major renovation underway on at 200 Prairie Street.
"A set of stairs that are going up in here and then three bedrooms that will be in the back," says Gary Anderson.
You need to move fast and keep your eyes open as Anderson leads you around the Prairie Street Brewhouse building. He's the architect in charge of its renovation. Anderson is quick to point out all the little intricacies in the 10 residential lofts.
"So we've repurposed a lot of the old stairs that we part of the tower here," says Anderson.
The lofts are supposed to see renters move-in in August. While work ramps up there, the engineering firm on the buildings second floor is getting settled in their new space..
"We are very excited to be on the ground floor. There are a lot of exciting things yet to come in the Brewhouse," says Joel Zirkle, Fehr Graham branch manager.
Beside being excited about Fehr Graham's brand new office space, the nearly 20 employees can't wait to see the restaurants open up. Work is still underway on at the Brew Pub, that's the microbrewery and restaurant. Plus, Dockside will be a permanent bar and grill.
"Maybe some day one of my employees might live up above and quite literally fulfill that live, work, learn, play right here all in the same complex," says Anderson.
The Brew Pub is expected to open in the fall. The Dockside restaurant needs a little bit more time it's not supposed to be ready until 2014.
