The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is investigating the leak after several fish have turned up dead.
According to a DNR captain, an officer was sent to the location because several fish were found dead in a private pond near Cunningham and Meridian Roads.Kent Creek flows into and out of the pond.
The DNR will keep its eye on the situation but says the fish kill is contained to that pond right now.
Several fire departments are called to the scene of an ammonia leak in Winnebago County. The leak is on S. Meridian Rd. at Conserv FS.
Hazardous materials teams responded. The Winnebago County Sheriff had everyone downwind of the fumes stay in their homes.
Investigators say a tanker backed into a pipe and broke it open. No one is hurt. They say there's no danger or immediate environmental risk.
Fire crews say they should have the leak capped late Tuesday evening.
