Sen. Dick Durbin optimistic with farm bill

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin says he's optimistic a new farm bill will pass this year.

The bill is currently on the Senate floor. Durbin says it failed to go through last year because it lacked support from the House.

But this year, he says the outcome is looking different.

"We need to give our farmers some certainty and peace of mind when it comes to the next five years on programs. It's a good bill. It reduces the deficit, but it does it in a way that still provides basic protection to crop insurance for our farmers," said Durbin.

Durbin also says immigration legislation is moving forward. The bill passed out of committee on Wednesday. He adds it has a good chance to pass the Senate as well.
