Registration is open for Northern Illinois Hospice and Grief Center's Camp Erin, a grief camp for kids between the ages of six and 17 who have lost someone close to them.
The camp is a four-day, three-night trip to the Wesley Woods Conference Center in Williams Bay, Wisconsin, about an hour northeast of Rockford. While there, kids will experience traditional camp activities mixed with grief education and emotional support.
"They bring a picture of their loved one who died and they tell us who that is and if they want to say how they died they can, and they pin the picture up on a memory board, and so we leave that memory board up all weekend and that's the beginning to open the door that there's other kids here that have had a loss," Grief Center coordinator Sylvia Sanderson explained.
The camp is offered free to all families and transportation is included. The deadline for registration is May 28. For more information, call 815-398-0500 or visit www.northernillinoishospice.org. About 50 kids will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
