PECATONICA (WREX) -

Illinois State Police District 16 troopers conducted Occupant Restraint Enforcement Patrols throughout the area between May 16 and May 21.

During that time, the following citations were given:

  • Safety belt - 88
  • Child restraint - 5
  • Total citations - 139
  • Total warnings - 26

The goal of the enforcement was to reinforce the message that all drivers should buckle up and children should be properly restrained for their own safety.

Locally, troopers teamed up with Cherry Valley and Loves Park Police on Wednesday for a seat belt enforcement zone at CherryVale Mall.

The increased patrols were funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
