If you're traveling on Illinois roads this holiday weekend, just remember, so are state troopers. This weekend, state police aren't just pushing for people to buckle up, they're cracking down on what they call the "Fatal Four." Seat belts are one of those, so ISP with Cherry Valley and Loves Park officers set-up a Seat Belt Enforcement Zone at CherryVale Mall Wednesday afternoon. Cops were checking to see if drivers were wearing seat belts and those who weren't were ticketed. One couple, who will be traveling to Wisconsin this Memorial Day weekend, say they make it a top priority to buckle up, especially when their young child is in the car.
"I think it's a great idea, it's nice to have officers looking out for us." -says Jay Krick & Genesis Hey.
The remaining three of the "Fatal Four" are driving under the influence, driving distracted and speeding. Roughly 5,000 tickets were given out during Memorial Day weekend 2012, about 3,000 of those were for speeding.
