A bill that would increase the speed limit on Illinois' interstate highways to 70 mph is on its way to Governor Pat Quinn's desk.
The measure was approved by the Illinois House 85 to 30 on Wednesday. Supporters say the increased speed limit would help businesses transport their products faster. However, the Illinois Department of Transportation opposes the measure because of the risk of more crashes and fatalities.
The current speed limit is 65 mph.
