Rockford area coaching legend Jerry Guse lost his battle with cancer Sunday after almost a year of fighting the disease.
Guse was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last July, but still helped coach Rockford Lutheran's basketball team to an appearance in the Sectional Finals. His sons Tom and Mark were on the bench with him.
Jerry Guse coached at all levels at Rockford Lutheran, and a few years at Belvidere. His coaching career spanned three decades.
He helped pass on a lot of lessons both on and off the court to kids during his time. The basketball community will miss this coaching legend.
Jerry Guse was 66 years old.
Visitation will be at Rockford Lutheran on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.
