One Rockford teenager has never missed a day of school ever. Jefferson High School Senior Randall Simental doesn't just have impeccable attendance. He's also made straight A's during his four years at Jefferson, but Randall knew before he even started Kindergarten that he wanted to be in class as much as possible.
"Ever since I was young, I always wanted to go to school, I just thought it was so cool to meet a lot of people and get grades for what you're doing." -he says.
Accomplishing this goal wasn't always easy. Randall's come to school even through sickness and loss.
"Funerals, field trips, extra things in my family like concerts and stuff, I wasn't able to go."
Randall's made his time in school count and not just in the gradebook. He's kept himself busy with different extra-curriculars, like Student Council. His upcoming graduation means the end of a two-year term as President.
"I'm in Key Club, I'm in Rays, I'm in National Honor Society and I've played five sports."
Being so involved in school has captured administrators' attention.
"We're pretty excited. We're very proud of him. It's very easy to miss a class and say 'I don't want to do this,' but every single day for the last 13 years he's been in school." -Jefferson High School Principal Don Rundall says with a smile.
Randall will get special recognition at Jefferson's end-of-the-year banquet Tuesday night. He'll go to Rock Valley College in the fall where he could continue that perfect attendance record.
