Some lucky winners of the Illinois Lottery weren't so lucky when they went to cash their checks.
The winners were stunned. Patti Crenshaw of Chicago says "So much money goes into the lottery, you would think that they would be able to pay out." But that wasn't the case when she tried to collect her $847.
The largest bounced check was for about $2,500.
Lottery spokesman Mike Lang says checks to eight recent winners in the Chicago area have bounced because of a clerical error, delaying the payouts, which totaled about $10,000 altogether.
Lang says a lottery employee forgot to approve the winning funds on deadline, so the bank did not release the money.
All eventually got their winnings.
