Clinton man disarms officer, faces attempted homicide charges

A 58-year-old Clinton man faces charges of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide, Battery to a Police Officer, and Disarming a Police Officer after allegedly disarming and attempting to shoot an officer.

Around 6:00 p.m. Thursday, the Rock County Communications Center got an abandoned 911 call from an apartment in the 700 block of Carol Street in Clinton. A Clinton officer responded and reported being attacked by the apartment's resident, Terry P. Robinson, shortly after arrival.

The officer said he was unable to control Robinson and called for help. According to police, Robinson was able to disarm the officer during an "extensive and violent struggle" and allegedly tried to fire the gun point-blank at the officer. However, the officer was able to disarm the gun before the round was discharged.

Soon after a nearby off-duty Beloit officer arrived, followed by deputies from the Rock County Sheriff's Office and on-duty Beloit officers. Police say Robinson continued to struggle before being taken into custody.

Although neither Robinson or the officer seemed to have any serious injuries, Robinson was taken to Beloit Memorial Hospital for evaluation.

Officers are still investigating the incident.
