A bill that would raise Winnebago County hotel taxes by up to two percent has now passed both the Illinois Senate and House.
The bill, dubbed Reclaiming First, would send the proceeds from the higher taxes toward improvements at Sportscore One, Sportscore Two, the Indoor Sports Complex, and the new Downtown Sports Complex.
Recently the area has lost money in amateur tournaments and leaders hope to keep the city's reputation for sports tourism alive through upgraded facilities.
The bill will now go to Governor Pat Quinn's desk for approval.
