The Irish Marching Society is helping Rockford celebrate 4th of July through a generous donation.
The society presented an $800 check to long-time 4th of July Committee Chairman Joe Marino to help with the annual event. The Irish Marching Society says it's a way to give back and make Marino's job a bit easier.
"I know my job isn't that easy putting together the St. Patrick's Day parade and I know it's got to be even harder to raise the funds to put on such a good fireworks display as they do every year," the marching society's Joseph Goral said.
Marino added the committee was happy to receive the donation and to share the 4th of July celebration with the community.
The committee is still about $12,000 short for this year's show, but Marino said the community always comes through.
