Hononegah's track team won its first sectional championship in seven years, edging out Cary-Grove for the team title.
The two schools were tied with 75 points each going into the final event, the 4x400-meter relay. Hononegah's team of Amy Dal Santo, Nicky Althoff, Brianna Pearson and Courtney Clayton ran away with the race to clinch the sectional title.
Clayton also won the 400, 800, and was part of the 4x800-meter relay team that also won. All four Hononegah relay teams won and qualified for state.
The rain at Belvidere North did not keep the Lady Indians from doing what they needed to do.
"It seems like this year the track meets have all been rainy," Hononegah senior Courtney Clayton said. "It's been a good day. It's a great day to run. We've been prepared. We can't wait for next weekend."
East's Logan Tillmon won both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Harlem's Aaliyah White finished 2nd in the 300 hurdles and also qualified for state.
The girls state meet is next weekend at Eastern Illinois University.
