Rockford volunteers put an artistic spin on the can drive

The Salvation Army food pantry will be the recipient of hundreds of cans gathered through a community "can-struction" project taking place at CherryVale Mall.

The project is part of the Out of the Box initiative. Architects, private and public school students, community volunteers, and service groups are taking donated canned food items and using them to erect an American flag in CherryVale's center court.

The project will be under construction through May 10.
