Students at Northern Illinois University are gearing up for summer, and they may have some extra items from their dorm they don't want to bring with them.
Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois has partnered with NIU this year to take those unwanted items, put them to use, and keep them out of landfills.
The "Give and Go! Move Out 2013" program is a pilot campaign launched by Goodwill Industries and Keep America Beautiful. Four other colleges and universities from around the country are also taking part.
Students can not only toss unwanted clothing, but also electronics and canned goods in bins set up all over NIU's campus. The goal is to make it as easy as possible for students to donate. Canned goods and unused toiletries donated during the drive will go to local homeless shelter Hope Haven.
The event runs through May 22.
