NIU honors out-going president

Students and staff of Northern Illinois University gathered Monday to say farewell to out-going President John G. Peters.

The celebration of Peters' 13 years of service was held near the campus' East Lagoon and featured the unveiling of Peters' presidential portrait.

The university's twelfth president announced his retirement last fall, expressing his love for the university's students and staff and acknowledging the "triumph and tragedy" shared by the campus during his tenure.

Peters' last day will be June 30. Dr. Douglas D. Baker, Executive VP of The University of Idaho has been named as his replacement.
