UPDATED: Three arrested in connection with home invasions

Two brutal home invasions are connected, and police say they say have the people responsible behind bars

18 year old Coreyon Brown and 19 year old Cortez Brown have been arrested in connection with both home invasions. Each face 16 felony charges. 19 year old Monique Kimble was also arrested for possession of stolen property and theft.

On April 25th, around 1:00 in the afternoon on Imperial Oaks Drive in Rockford, police responded to the first armed robbery. Two victims, Colleen and Jack Holmbeck, were attacked, Jack was shot. They were taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

One week later, second home invasion. This one took place on Favor Road in Rockton. Homeowners Roger and Kay Schramm walked in on the robbery. The intruders beat the couple, then shot and killed their two dogs.

"When you look at the two crimes, there were things that were dissimilar, such as colors of cars and other things," says Winnebago County Sheriff Richard Meyers. But when you look at the one common ingredient, is the brutality of both of them, common sense would tell you, you ought to take a look to see if there's a connection between the two."

It took the efforts of both Rockford and Winnebago county law enforcement to track down the suspects. Coreyon was arrested near Central and Sherman Avenue in Rockford around midnight on Friday . Cortez turned himself in to police a few hours later.

"The crimes that have been committed are crimes that have caused a lot of fear in our community, both in the city and in the county. And to be able to apprehend these suspects says a lot about how these agencies work together," says Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey.

The younger brother, Coreyon, also had a warrant for his arrest out of Green Bay, Wisconsin, for burglary and aggravated battery, and for parole violations in Illinois.

The investigation is on-going, and no photos of the arrested have been released.
