New Belvidere mayor sworn in

The new mayor of Belvidere is ready to get to work after being sworn into office.

Michael Chamberlain took the oath at Belvidere City Hall Wednesday morning. He is taking the reins from Fred Brereton, who decided to step down after 16 years in office. Chamberlain said it has been a humbling experience so far.

"I've been on the council for eight years, so I've been pretty close to the workings of City Hall. This is a goal I set for myself and when you get there you take a deep breath and say, 'Now the work begins,'" he remarked.

Chamberlain will be sworn-in again before the full Belvidere City Council next week.
