Streed Gets Honored

Senior Daryn Streed (Belvidere, Ill./North) continues to pile up accolades in his final season in a Rockford College uniform. Late Monday night and early Tuesday morning Streed was recognized by the Northern Athletics Conference and for his performance at the plate this past week. Streed was voted Northern Athletics Conference Position Player of the Week and selected as the designated hitter on the Team of the Week. It is the second time this season Streed has earned a weekly award from the NAC as he was chosen as the NAC Pitcher of the Week earlier in the year. Streed is now the only player in the history of the Northern Athletics Conference to be named Pitcher of the Week and Position Player of the Week during his career much less in the same season. This is also the second time in as many seasons that Streed has been named to the Team of the Week.

This past week Streed was one of the driving forces behind Rockford's 8-0 week. He had a hit in every game and had 6 multi-hit games including three 3-hit games. The senior recorded 6 doubles, 2 home runs, scored 10 runs and had 12 RBI. Streed hit .500 for the week (17-34) with a .564 on-base percentage and a .853 slugging percentage.
So far this season the Belvidere native is at the top or near the top in nearly every statistical category for Rockford. Streed leads the team in batting average (.371), at bats (140), hits (52), triples (2), runs batted in (27), total bases (75) and is tied for the lead in doubles (13). He is also second on the team in runs scored (24), on-base percentage (.426) and slugging percentage (.536).
In addition to being one of the Regents top hitters, Streed has been equally as valuable on the mound. The senior has 3 wins in his 7 starts and holds a 3.12 earned run average so far this season. Streed has thrown a team-high 52 innings and struck out a team-best 41 hitters.
Rockford has already clinched a spot in the Northern Athletics Conference Tournament for the sixth time in the last seven seasons but is still only one game out of first place with two NAC games remaining. The baseball team has a pair of non-conference games this week beginning on Tuesday at the University of Illinois-Chicago at 7 p.m. and concluding at home on Wednesday against #18 Illinois Wesleyan University at 4 p.m. The Regents will then look to improve their tournament seeding on Saturday, May 4th with a home doubleheader against Benedictine University. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Aviators Stadium.
