I cannot tell you how excited I am to begin this 10,000 step journey with all of you. While Aaron, Greg and I have been practicing the ins and outs of our pedometers for a few days, we're thrilled to be welcoming our viewers into the mix. At CherryVale Mall, we'll be handing out 1,000 FREE pedometers! Yes, FREE! Over the next few weeks, we'll be tracking our steps, and encourage everyone to log onto our website page as well. We want to see your pictures, hear your stories, and see your progress.
After meeting with the Swedish American doctors last week, we've learned the importance of walking and staying active as we grow older. Not only does working out make me feel better, but it also improves my overall health. It helps control my weight, keeps me fit, and it's just fun! Since retiring from competitive gymnastics one year ago, I've been searching for a fun way to workout, without getting bored. Spending nearly 17 years in a gymnastics gym, four hours a day, for five days a week, I was used to a regimented routine. I didn't have to think about how I was going to get exercise in during the day. It was just on auto pilot after a while. Now, I go to the normal gym, as I call it, and find unique ways to stay active, because as you all can probably tell on air, I like to stay busy and have fun.
As we've already learned, 10,000 steps is not easy. Whether you're an athlete or haven't worked out in years, we're all starting the journey from the beginning. One step at a time. One foot in front of the other. So over the next few weeks, it is my goal to make it happen! I'm going to use fun, unique ways to get the steps in. I've been a golfer since I was a little girl, so I'll be walking a lot of golf courses to get my steps in. Aaron and I will probably hit the dance floor again as well, to get a good workout in and to see the numbers climb on our pedometers.
The journey begins with the first step, so whether you're in tip top shape or are starting from scratch, I encourage you to never give up. Challenge yourself to go one step further each day. As cliche as it sounds, every step counts. We hear at 13News Today are here for you as well, to encourage, join in, and praise you on your successes!
Please continue to follow our 10,000 step challenge page to see updates and tips on how to get your steps! Now, get walking!
