A Janesville man has been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and domestic violence after several hours of negotiations.
Janesville Police responded to a home in the 3500 block of Curry Lane just before 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24. Police say 31-year-old Jason J. Peebles got into an argument with his mother and step-father, and threatened to commit suicide. The parents left the residence and called police, telling them a loaded handgun, one rifle, and one shotgun were in the residence.
Responding officers set up a perimeter around the home and tried to contact Peebles by phone, receiving no response. Officers then tried to contact him through public address. After several failed attempts, the Janesville Police Department SWAT team was called in and tactical command was set up just after 11:00 p.m.
SWAT team members and members of the Hostage Negotiation Team continued attempts to contact Peebles, but continued to receive no response. SWAT then made entry to the home and secured the first level. Once inside, negotiators made verbal contact with Peebles in the basement of the home. He was then directed to the SWAT team and taken into custody just before 2:15 a.m.
Peebles faces charges of disorderly conduct and domestic violence. He also had a bench warrant against him out of Calumet County for non-support of a child.
