Rockford area businesses encourage kids' creativity

Businesses in the Rockford region are hosting events throughout May to encourage creativity with kids.

"Out of the Box" is a collaboration of 30 organizations with one goal: to promote community teamwork among local kids. Rockford Lutheran School came up with the idea and Cherryvale Mall and Edgebrook Center are co-hosting a community art contest. The Discovery Center Museum and Tinker Swiss Cottage are also planning on hosting new programs next month.

"They're planning their own events, they're carrying them out. They've got their own missions to share, but its good for all of us to stand next to each other, to have a choir instead of a soloist," Rockford Lutheran Executive Director Don Gillingham said.
