Rock House Kids receives computer donation

Thanks to the hard work of Rockford Lutheran students, Rock House Kids has a brand new computer, made from scratch.

The computer is a result of a partnership between Rockford Lutheran High School, Exploring, Garcea Computers LLC, and Rock House Kids. A Learning for Life/Exploring program grant paved the way to create a Computer Building Service Program that linked the four organizations.

About 18 students from eighth to twelfth grades at Lutheran took part in a three-part program taught by Jeff Garcea. The students took old computers apart while learning the use of each component. Students then rebuilt those computers. The class' final project was to build an entirely new computer from scratch.

The new computer was presented to Rock House Kids on Tuesday, April 23. Rock House Kids cares for at-risk kids in Rockford.
