ROCKFORD (WREX) -

A Rock Valley College student is one of eight from around the country that will participate in Research Experiences for Undergraduates.

REU is a ten-week National Science Foundation-funded training program for community college students majoring in astronomy and physics. Abby Becker will travel to Texas A&M University this summer to take part.

Becker will also receive an award with a value of $6,000 and work directly under a faculty mentor in the astronomy field. While she's there, Becker will visit McDonald Observatory and gain remote access to Kitt Peak National Observatory and Chile's SARA Observatory.
