Over 1,300 area runners are gearing up for this year's Rockford Marathon, which will be held on Sunday, May 19.
The event features a full marathon, half marathon, or a 10K competitive-time run. The race will begin at 7:00 a.m. at Main and Chestnut in downtown Rockford. The full and half marathon courses runs along the Rock River to the north of downtown and several neighborhoods west of the river. A community and sports fair will also be held at Davis Park.
Registration is open at www.rockfordmarathon.com and almost 500 people have registered for the half marathon, 250 for the full, and 200 for the 10K. Advance registration fees are available until Thursday, May 16 and are $80 for the full, $60 for the half, and $40 for the 10K. After May 16, costs rise to $90, $70, and $45, respectively.
A portion of this year's proceeds will go to the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Runners may also donate to the food bank when they register.
The race has attracted participants from almost 25 states since its re-launch in 2008 with 900 runners.
