UNDATED (WREX) -

To celebrate Earth Day, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White is encouraging drivers to go green.

White suggested drivers sign up to receive their vehicle renewal notices through email and announced new vehicle renewal postcards, which use less paper, are being distributed to drivers who haven't signed up for emails.

"I'm pleased to say this process will result in the savings of $400,000 each year, so today I'm encouraging all Illinois motorists to go green on Earth Day by registering on our website," White said.

Drivers can sign up for email notices at www.cyberdriveillinois.com. A vehicle registration card or renewal notice will be needed. If you do not have either of those, you can call the Public Inquiry Division at 800-252-8980.

White said about 14,000 people sign up for the service each week.
