Goodwill celebrates Donate Day

Area residents can celebrate Earth Day by donating some of their old items to be reused and repurposed through Goodwill.

Each year, Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois celebrates Donate Day on Earth Day. The day encourages people to donate their gently used clothing and household items instead of sending them to the landfill.

Each year, Goodwill diverts over eight million pounds of local clothing and household items from landfills. The organization has also partnered with Dell to offer free computer recycling.

"With Earth Day now four decades old, more Americans than ever before are concerned about environmental issues," said Goodwill's President, Sam Schmitz. "Yet it is easy to lose track of the ways that one person can make a difference. For more than 75 years, Goodwill has linked protecting the environment to helping people earn paychecks, support their families and strengthen their communities."
