Rockford College Coach Breaks School Record

Posted:
ROCKFORD (WREX) -

Rockford College softball coach Kristyn King etched her name in the record book on Sunday afternoon when the Regents defeated Marian University 4-1. With that win King surpassed former Rockford College baseball coach Bill Langston for the most coaching wins in a single sport. King now has 328 wins over her 21 seasons as the Regents head softball coach. Coach King previously broke the school record for most total combined coaching wins in multiple sports with 334.

In her 21 seasons at the helm of the Rockford College softball team Coach King has built a program that has produced numerous winning seasons. King took over the softball team in 1993 after it had won just 7 games the year prior and within four years led the Regents to a 22 win season and a third place finish in the Northern Illinois Iowa Conference. Since King took over, Rockford has had six seasons with more than 20 wins after never having a 20-win season prior to her arrival. Rockford had back-to-back seasons of at least 25 wins starting in 2005 when the ladies went 25-14 and recorded the most wins in a year in the program's history. That record was short lived however as the very next season Rockford had an even better year going 28-11 and earning another berth in the NIIC Postseason Tournament.
King's softball win total of 328 appears as though it will not be broken anytime in the near future. She currently has more than double the amount of wins at Rockford as the next closest head coach and continues to add to her win total each year.

The Regents will look to add a couple of more wins on Monday, April 28 when they host the MSOE Raiders. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at the Smith Athletic Field on the campus of Rockford College.
