In a typical spelling bee, you're usually on your own but Thursday nights Cheater's Spelling Bee has a few different rules.
Adults put their heads together in teams. If they're stuck on a word they can buy a "cheat." You can get a new word or buy time to look at the dictionary. The money from cheats goes towards Family Counseling Services.
Cheater's Spelling Bee Chairman, Kathy Velasco says a non-profit organization that provides counseling at a discounted rate to people in the Rockford area.
"People can pay as low as $15 an hour to get these services. It's such an issue right now with people getting laid off or they just don't have insurance or they just don't have the means to be able to afford counseling."
This is the organization's second spelling bee.
