A Dixon city worker accused of stealing steps down.
Former Public Works Director Shawn Ortgiesen submitted his resignation letter Tuesday. According to Mayor Jim Burke, it went into effect immediately. Ortgiesen allegedly charged more than $13,000 in personal expenses on a city credit card. Mayor Burke says the he's paid all of that back plus roughly 4% interest.
We tried contacting Lee County State's Attorney Anna Sacco-Miller, to see if the county is pressing charges. She was not available. Her staff says they've been instructed not to comment on the issue.
Shawn Ortgiesen resigned in a letter to Dixon Mayor James Burke on Tuesday, apologized for breaking the city's trust, and included a check for $9,157.38. Officials claim Ortgiesen charged $13,521.14 in personal expenses to a city credit card between April 2007 and March 2013. Prior to Tuesday, he had paid back $4,890.31.
According to Mayor Burke, the Dixon City Council approves of Ortgiesen's resignation and feels it's the best option for the city.
